Adopting A Senior Pet -- Can Bad Training Be Undone?

broken image

Old dogs can be taught new tricks but undoing an existing undesirable behavior will certainly be a challenge. Sometimes, adult dogs can turn into fear biters when their owners try to change some of their old habits that are undesirable. They bite because they are fearful and anxious, especially when corrective measures or commands that are used in re-training are associated with some negative experiences while they were younger.

Another important concern is possible authority issues concerning adopted senior dogs. It may take some time for newly adopted senior pets to get used to their new owners. This is often the case when a dog has been through several foster homes and/or has had bad experiences with persons unfamiliar to him.

You should talk with a vet Aurora, CO if you have questions and/or concerns about your pet’s behavior.
