Your gerbil will not appreciate going out in the cold. He may go into shock if it’s too cold. He may also get sick pretty quickly. If you have to take your gerbil out in the cold (i.e. to transport him from car to home or vice versa), keep the cage covered with a towel and immediately take your gerbil indoors and find a warm place for his cage. Do not let your gerbil out in the snow. He is not equipped for cold, snowy weather. The gerbil originated in the desert areas and is most comfortable with a room temperature between 65 and 75 degrees. If you can’t provide your gerbil with that then make other provisions for your gerbil. You can board him while you travel, have a pet sitter come in, etc. Just don’t take him out in the cold.
