Degenerative Joint Disease in Rabbits

broken image

Have you ever owned a rabbit? If so then you may be familiar with the different health conditions that can develop in rabbits. For instance, arthritis and osteoarthritis are common in rabbits and other animals as they age. Their joints began to swell or even break down. In rabbits this is called Osteoarthritis or Degenerative Joint Disease (DJD). DJD is a chronic condition that causes cartilage surrounding the joints to deteriorate. DJD should not be confused with arthritis as arthritis simply involves inflammation to the joints which can be treated. Osteoarthritis is degeneration or deterioration of joints completely. This condition may develop as a result of a more serious condition such as an injury or trauma to the joint. This is what Degenerative Joint Disease is; a breaking down or deteriorating completely. There is no cure for this disease. Your vet Bloomfield Township can share more information about DJD. Click this link for additional details: https://walnutlakeanimalhospital.com/
