Dogs Can Sniff Out Disease In Humans

broken image

Many research studies have been able to shed light on the ability of dogs to detect diseases in humans, particularly cancers, using their keen sense of smell. Malignant tumors give off minute amounts of chemical substances that are not present in healthy cells and tissues. It’s been said that dogs are able to perceive these changes long before they are revealed in blood test results. There was one particular study that showed how 5 trained dogs were able to correctly pinpoint lung cancer in 99% of the patients and 88% of breast cancer patients by just sniffing t heir breath. Dogs have also been shown to be efficient in detecting when a sudden drop in blood sugar occurs in people suffering from Type 1 diabetes. In the study, 65% of dogs were able to warn their diabetic pet owners when a hypoglycemic attack started by whining and barking.
