Ear Mites in Dogs

broken image

Is your dog scratching constantly and excessively at his ears? Is he shaking his head often from one side to the other or just on one side? If so, please call your vet to schedule a checkup. Your dog could have something going on with his ears. He could have an ear infection or an infestation of ear mites. Mites are common in dogs. The most common species are the Otodectes cynotis or the common mite. Signs of ear mite infestation often include shaking the head and scratching at the ears profusely. Dogs may scratch so hard that they pull hair out of their ears or even shake their head so hard that they break a blood vessel in the ear or even form a hematoma. Report these signs and symptoms to your vet immediately for an evaluation and treatment. Never self treat. Do not stick anything in your dog’s ear. Always consult with your pet clinic Norfolk, VA.
