Did you know that different types of dogs need different types of grooming brushes and combs? For instance, a Chihuahua most likely does not need a metal or wire-pin grooming brush to help pull out dead hair. The Chihuahua usually has very little coat unless he is a longhaired breed. The Golden Retriever, however, has two healthy coats and needs a deep brush to get the fur shiny and unmated and untangled. Your vet or local pet store associate can help you pick out the best brush. A Golden with matted hair or tangles should use a slicker brush for grooming. Wire-pin brushes work great with the longer coats whether the coat is straight, curly or wooly (aka thick). If your Golden is an excessive shedder then a de-shedding brush (i.e. the FURminator) may be recommended as well. For more tips, give your vet Glendale, AZ a call.
