Helping Cat Overcome Fear

broken image

Contrary to popular belief, not all cats are fierce, independent, no fear creatures. Ever hear of the term ‘scaredy cat’? Some cats have fears and anxieties. Some of those anxieties may require medical attention from a vet especially if the cat works itself up by pacing so much that he sweats. Simply signs of fear may be excessive meowing or the cat sticking close to your feet scared to leave your side. These are times when you want to try and find the cause for the fear and help your cat overcome it. The first thing not to do is pick your cat up and coddle her. This could enforce the anxiety instead of help it. Instead, try to distract your cat with a game, teaching her tricks, food, or playing then giving her a belly rub. Keep your cat in a quieter room during thunderstorms or while the lawn is being mowed. Your vets Greater Cincinnati can give you more tips.
