How Often Should Dogs Be Vaccinated?

broken image

Dogs pretty much stay on the same schedule for routine or annual vaccinations. Puppies, however, have a different vaccination schedule. For instance, puppies will need to have all of their initial vaccines at around 6 weeks of age. These vaccines include the core vaccines of DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, and parainfluenza). These initial vaccines are given in a series so your puppy will need to continue the series at 12 weeks and 16 weeks of age to complete the vaccines. After that the vaccines are updated yearly. Rabies vaccines are also given to puppies and typically last a year. All dogs should receive core vaccines and rabies vaccines annually. Some rabies vaccinations now last two to three years. Other vaccinations may not be needed annually unless your dog will be in a boarding or kennel environment (i.e. Bordetella). Your veterinary clinic Fort Collins, CO can give you a schedule for vaccinations that fits your dog’s needs. Learn more here.
