How to Hold a Kitten

Holding a kitten can be a very special experience. These little feline newborns are so soft, cuddly and cute. Just remember, they need to be held carefully and with plenty of support. You should always ask the owner if the kitten can be held. Most vets recommend not holding kittens too much in the early days. When you can hold the kitten make sure you do so in a way that is comfortable for the kitten. A common and most often recommended way to pick up the kitten is by using your writing hand to gently grip the kitten behind its front legs. Next, use your opposite hand to scoop up the kitten by his back end. Check to ensure the tail is tucked between his legs so he doesn’t get hurt. Always set the kitten back down ensuring the feet all hit the floor at the same time. For more tips, give your Barker Animal Hospital a call.
