Shedding or ecdysis is a normal physiological process in snakes. It takes place on a regular basis. Although shedding is essential for their general well-being, it is stressful for snakes. Here are some tips to prevent shedding problems:
- The snake’s enclosure should have rocks, driftwood, or other surfaces where your snake can rub its body to get rid of their old skin. Make sure that these surfaces have no sharp edges.
- Place water in a shallow dish and put it inside the snake’s enclosure so it can soak itself.
- Provide a humidity hide box inside the cage. The box is made of plastic and contains damp sphagnum moss. The entry hole of the box should be big enough for the snake to pass. It is in the humidity box where snakes usually spend more time in during shedding.
