How to Treat a Dermoid Sinus Skin Defect

broken image

Dogs in the Rhodesian Ridgeback or Ridgeback canine family have been known to develop a condition called dermoid sinus skin defect. The Ridgeback breed has a dermoid sinus which is a neural tube that runs along the neck, back and tail. It is connected to the lining of the spinal cord. It’s job is to train dead cells and tissue. If it’s not working right there could be a backup of fluid and you may see a drainage along the dog’s back. Infections and abscesses can form because of this. Treatment often varies. For slight deformation the area around the tube may leak or discharge. This must be cleaned or treated regularly to avoid infections. If infection occurs, surgery may be required. In some cases, neurological symptoms may appear. Please consult with your licensed vet Sugar Land TX for the best possible treatment of your canine.
