Did you know that hypoglycemia can occur in dogs like the Boxer? This is a common problem with dogs that have a high or low blood sugar level. It is often related to diabetes, although, it can happen to dogs with no history of diabetes. When blood sugar levels are abnormal (especially abnormally low), your dog may develop hypoglycemia which could present itself in the form of sudden decrease in energy, change in appetite, weakness, restlessness, confusion and even fainting. For some dogs, hypoglycemia occurs because too much insulin has been given to a diabetic dog. But, hypoglycemia can also occur as a symptom of other health issues. For instance, dog’s brain needs a constant supply of glucose in order to function. An underlying illness could be preventing this from happening, which can cause hypoglycemia.
