Litter Box Placement Tip

broken image

Cats hate being disturbed or feel threatened when they’re doing their business. This can prompt them do their thing somewhere else where they feel safe and comfortable. Here are some litter box placement tips to prevent inappropriate elimination:

  • If your house has several floors, place at least a litter box on each floor so your cat won’t have to go far if he wants to use the litter box. This is also an ideal set-up for senior cats.
  • Place two litter boxes side-by-side (but not too close together) to give your cat options.
  • Don’t place a mat or other soft materials just right before the opening of the litter box. While this can help minimize the spread of cat litter to therest of your home, your cat may like the soft texture of the mat or towel as he walks toward the litter box opening and may choose to do his thing on it instead. Doing so may encourage him to branch out to carpets, rugs, towels, etc. anywhere in your home. To prevent this behavior, use a rubber or plastic mat instead.
