Mange in Cats

broken image

You may be familiar with mange in dogs, but did you know it can also happen to cats? Mange is a skin disease that is caused by different parasites or mites. It is sometimes called demodicosis or demodectic mange. It causes inflammation and irritation to the skin and can be very uncomfortable. The mites or parasites are often not visible. If you notice your cat is scratching a lot, seems irritated, has skin irritation, and even hair loss, call your vet to schedule a checkup right away. It could be mange or something else. Mites in the hair follicles could be from mange or it could be due to skin lesions, genetic disorders, immune problems, or other hair loss related illnesses. Again, your vet needs to examine your cat to provide the right treatment. Do not self treat. Consult with your veterinary clinic Pickerington, OH.
