Rabbits and Arthritis

veterinarians Louisville CO

Arthritis is common in humans and animals as they age. Arthritis can also show up in young people and young animals. Rabbits are no different. As they age, rabbits can develop joint pain, swelling and other joint or muscle related illnesses. Arthritis is a big concern in rabbits because it affects how they hop around and can cause pain. Arthritis is generally the inflammation of the joints. An upgraded form is called Osteoarthritis or Degenerative Joint Disease (DJD) which is a deterioration of the joints completely. This can cause a lot of pain and is very uncomfortable. If you see that your rabbit is having trouble walking, hopping, or getting up and down then you should call your vet and schedule an exam. Let your vet run the exam and make the diagnosis. It could be arthritis or Osteoarthritis or just a pulled muscle. For more information click here or call your veterinarians Louisville, CO.
