Removing a Tick from Your Dog

broken image

Removing a tick should be done a certain way in order to prevent the spread of additional toxins from the tick to your dog. You should never squeeze the tick as this could cause more toxins to be released into your dog. If your dog has a tick, you can use a tick remover device from the store to pull the tick out. If you don’t have one of those then you should use the tweezers or your thumb and index finger to grab hold of the tick as close to the skin as possible. Pull straight up with a steady and even pressure. Never twist or jerk the tick as this could leave parts of the tick behind. Once the tick has been removed, place it in a plastic bag to show your vet. Some ticks cause more harm than others. Identifying the tick can help the vet Washington DC know how to treat your dog or if treatment is even needed. For more details, visit this link: https://metrodcvet.com/
