Stop Your Dog From Jumping Up On People

broken image

For most dogs, jumping up on people is a way of showing their happiness and greetings. While many dog owns are happy to receive this enthusiastic reception, it can be very embarrassing when your pooch does it on other people who are not used to this type of behavior. Since the behavior is often tolerated by many pet owners, it is often hard to get rid of it. However, it is possible to stop your dog from jumping up on people. Here are some tips in dealing with the problem:

  • Avoid reinforcing the behavior. Paying attention (positive or negative) to your dog when he jumps up on you reinforces this attention-seeking behavior.
  • Be restrained in greeting your dog; avoid over-enthusiastic greetings.
  • When he jumps up on you, give the “sit” command and never give him extra attention until he calms down. Be quick to offer a treat when he heeds your command.

Sudden changes in your pet’s health and/or behavior should warrant an appointment with a Frisco, TX animal hospital sooner rather than later.
