Symptomatic Epilepsy in Canines

broken image

Not all canines will have seizures in their lifetime. Knowing the signs, however, can help you identify a possible seizure sooner. This can help you contact your vet and get medical treatment for your dog in a more timely manner. Signs of seizures include uncontrolled body movements or convulsions, involuntary urination or defecation, chomping, chewing, howling, and other abnormal behaviors. Call your vet if your dog has any of these signs. There are two types of seizures. One is symptomatic seizures or symptomatic epilepsy. This type usually has a traceable underlying cause or illness. Dogs that are prone to this type of epilepsy often have two different types of seizures including the “Petit mal” or partial motor seizures and “Grand mal” or major motor seizures. The Petit mal seizures are not as severe as the Grand mal seizures. Call your vets Dutchess County, NY for more information. Or click this website Billings Animal Hospital.
