Tips To Help A Depressed Pet Bird

broken image

If you notice that your bird seems to be “off” or “feeling down with the blues”, the first thing that should be done is schedule an appointment with an animal hospital so that your pet can be given a full check-up. If given a clean bill of health, your pet’s behavior may be caused by depression. Here are some tips to help your pet bird get back to its old perky self:

  • Take a closer look at your pet’s immediate surroundings. Birds can easily be stressed when their cage is suddenly moved to an area where they feel that the conditions are not right. A common example would be a chilly environment or a room where they can’t see the family. Always keep in mind that birds are social creatures and they like to spend time interacting with their humans.
  • Provide adequate physical and mental stimulation. Rotate bird toys on a weekly basis to preserve their “newness” or novelty and keep the bird interested.
  • The bird cage should be maintained everyday.
  • Spend regular time interacting with your pet bird and allow them to play outside their enclosure each day.
  • If you only have one bird, consider getting another bird so they can keep each other company.
  • If you think your pet bird is ill, you should seek help from a veterinarian  Clermont County. Learn more here.
