DJD stands for Degenerative Joint Disease, which is also known as Osteoarthritis. It is a long-term disease that may develop when the cartilage surrounding the muscle of joints slowly deteriorates. This isn’t arthritis which is the inflammation of those joints. DJD may appear suddenly or over time. One indication is if your rabbit is having trouble moving around. You should schedule an appointment with your vet. Your rabbit may not have DJD, but he will still need his condition to be evaluated. Other signs of DJD will depend on the severity of the deterioration. Most rabbits will have lameness or a stiff gait, restricted motion, and inability to hop.
