What To Do If Your Pet Is Showing Signs Of Hypothermia

Hypothermia treatment for pet dogshas to immediately start because this condition can potentially belife-threatening very quickly.

If you think that hypothermia hasaffected your pet, do the following:

●Take your pet to a warmer room.

●You can use towels or yourhairdryer on a low setting, held about 12 inches away to dry your pet.

●Warm a blanket in the dryer anduse it to wrap your pet.

●Use a hot water bottle wrapped intowels (prevents burning) placed on your pet’s belly.

●If your pet is dry, you can useheating pads, but be sure to watch them so that they do not chew on the cords.

●Offer warm liquids for your petto drink.

●Use a thermometer to check yourpet’s temperature. Should it be lowerthan 95 degrees, your animal companion could be hypothermic, so immediatelytake them to the veterinarian.

If your pet’s temperature is higherthan 95 degrees F, retake the temperature in about 10 to 15-minute intervalsfor monitoring, all the while warming techniques are being applied. After the temperature reaches 100 degrees For higher, you could then remove the hot water bottle. However, keep your pet warm still.

You should have your pet examined byyour vet Scottsdale, AZ that very same day. It does not matter if your pet’s temperature goes up to over 99 degreesbecause even just one hypothermia incident could be harmful, making themsusceptible to that condition again. Learn more here.
