What to Expect When Caring for a Senior Cat

broken image

Cats may begin to show their age through their mobility levels or through their mental levels. For instance, some cats may start to show aging by not being able to jump as much or go in and out of the litter box. This could be due to arthritis and other joint related illnesses. Other cats may start to show their age by simply wandering around the house or becoming extremely forgetful. Although cats don’t actually develop dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, they can develop something called CDS or feline cognitive dysfunction syndrome. Things to watch for in aging cats include lack of mobility, forgetfulness, urinary incontinence, and even more meowing or whining. Your cat may also start staring at walls, large objects, or just stand with a blank stare on her face. If your cat is showing these signs, contact your vet clinic Oakville, ON and schedule a senior exam.
