When to blanket your donkey or whether to blanket your donkey at all is generally a decision to make on your own. You can ask friends and fellow donkey owners, but in the end, you know your donkey and his particular needs. A general rule is if it’s 45° F or above and your donkey is unclipped then he doesn’t need a blanket. If it’s around 35 to 44° F your unclipped donkey is still fine without a blanket although a light weight could be used. When temperatures start dropping below freezing and hang just about 25° then a medium weight blanket for your donkey is recommended. A heavy blanket may be used for clipped donkeys. Anything below 25° is pretty much a call for a heavy blanket. To find out what your donkey needs, click here, or give your Mt. Airy, MD veterinary clinic team a call.
