Dogs commonly chew down and snack down on grass. Contrary to popular belief, however, it’s not always to relieve stomach ache or to induce vomiting. Some dogs will lick grass in order to lick the water or fresh dew off the grass blades. Some dogs lick or eat grass because they are bored and need something to chew on. And, some dogs do actually lick, chew or eat grass because they have a stomach ache even though they do not do it to make themselves throw up. A dog may also eat grass if they have indigestion. Dogs tend to vomit after eating grass because the grass gets stuck in their throat causing a gag reflex. Dogs are not eating the grass with the intent of vomiting. If your dog is eating a lot of grass, give your veterinary clinic Cy-Fair a call to schedule a checkup for your dog.
