Why Does My Pet Rabbit Poop Everywhere In The House?

broken image

Rabbits thrive when they are allowed to spend a few hours a day outside their hutch to explore their surroundings and engage in physical activity. But they must be placed in a room or yard that has been rabbit-proofed to prevent unfortunate circumstances from happening. But one of the common problems that rabbit owners face is having to deal with rabbit poop everywhere in the house. They defecate to mark their territory, leaving their distinct scent as a warning to other rabbits. The behavior is more distinct if there are other rabbits in your home. Also, rabbits are known to instinctively poop their way along their path so it will be easier to find their way back.

Don’t you know that rabbits can be litter-trained? Start by placing a few litter boxes or trays in areas where they are allowed to roam. Usually, they choose one spot for elimination (pooping and peeing). In time, you will soon notice the rabbits picking one of the litter box/tray as their potty spot. You can then remove the other trays and be consistent in placing a litter tray at the spot selected by the rabbits.

Sudden changes in your pet’s elimination habits should warrant an appointment with a vet clinic Portage, MI.
