Dogs and Ear Infections

broken image

Did you know that dogs can be prone to ear aches or ear infections? Common signs of an ear infection often include scratching the ears, rubbing the ears, and excessive head shaking. Call your vet if your dog has any of these symptoms and especially if these symptoms last longer than a day. Your vet will need to examine your dog to determine if it’s an ear ache or something else. For instance, there could be something like a flea or tick inside the ear irritating it or causing the ache. In general, ear infections come from bacteria or yeast in the ears. Puppies may have mites in the ears which could cause the same symptoms. Your vet may suggest washing the ear with a cleanser or he may prescribe antibiotic drops. No matter the prescription, follow your animal hospital Wichita, KS team’s instructions. Never self treat and don’t stick anything in your dog’s ear
