Helping Your Fat Cat Slim Down

Cat Care

Your cat may suffer from mobility issues or arthritis if she is obese. Obesity also puts your cat at risk for diseases such as diabetes, hyperthyroidism or even cancer. Help your cat slim down by reducing her total daily calories and increasing her exercise. Control portion size and ensure that your cat doesn’t eat any other cat’s food. Don’t give her table scraps and minimize treats. Consider feeding your cat a weight control cat food while your cat gets in shape. Getting a cat to exercise can be difficult but try to increase her physical activity through play. Use toys that stimulate your cat’s hunting instincts such as a ball, laser pointer or fishing rod toy with a feather lure. These toys will entice your cat to chase, pounce and jump. Keep exercise sessions short at first and increase the length and intensity as your cat slims down. For more information, contact your veterinarian Farmers Branch, TX.
