When it comes to housing hedgehogs, bigger is always better. They thrive in a spacious enclosure with lots of room to engage in natural behaviors and exercise. Ideally, the enclosure should have a length of about 4 feet with enough space for a wheel to give your pet plenty of opportunities for exercise.
The floor or the enclosure should be solid with a deep layer of bedding where they can burrow in. Mesh floors should be avoided as they can injure a hedgehog’s delicate paws. The enclosure should be spacious enough to have separate areas for sleeping, eating, drinking, physical activity, and a potty area. There should be proper ventilation but it must also be warm inside the enclosure. Hedgehogs can be clumsy creatures.
