How do NSAIDs Help Dogs?

broken image

If your dog has been prescribed an NSAID make sure you talk with your vet more in depth to find out why the NSAID was prescribed and how it should be helping your dog. NSAID stands for Non-steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug. This is often prescribed to help reduce pain, swelling, and sometimes fevers. In dogs, an NSAID is often prescribed for pain or swelling of the muscles, for stiff joint pain, and overall for arthritis. Some dogs that have had recent surgical procedures may also be prescribed an NSAID to help reduce inflammation or swelling from the surgery site. In most cases, your dog should show no side effects to the medication. However, some dogs have had behavioral changes, appetite changes, vomiting, diarrhea, and even skin irritations due to the medication. If your dog develops any of these signs stop the medication and call your veterinary clinic Dunn, NC.
