Does My Dog Need a Dental Exam?

broken image

Yes, most dogs should have their teeth examined by the vet either during a routine annual exam or during a specially set up dental exam. In a routine exam, the vet may simply open the dog’s mouth and look at the teeth. Bad breath, decay, food and plaque buildup, and loose teeth are a good sign that there’s something going on in your dog’s mouth. Your vet may then recommend a dental exam or teeth cleaning. During this process the vet will either put your dog under general anesthesia or use a gas sedation to knock your dog out for the exam. During the exam the vet may scrape tartar from the teeth, pull dead or loose teeth, and clean the gum lines. The exam will also give him a closer look at your dog’s dental health. In many cases, vets will recommend dental cleanings every six months. If you have more questions, talk with your veterinarian Benson, NC.
