How to Prepare a Senior Canine’s Food

 vet clinic East Dallas, TX

You may have noticed that his eating habits aren’t quite like they used to be. What you feed your dog and how your feed your dog will depend on the vet’s instructions and the health of your senior. For instance, a healthy senior that has all or most of his teeth will do fine on a senior dry dog food. Be prepared for him to eat slower though. If he has trouble eating the dry food, moisten it with hot water for about a minute then drain it. If your senior doesn’t drink much, leave part of the water so he’ll get hydrated while he eats. For seniors with few teeth moistening the dry food is a must. If that doesn’t work then serving a canned wet food will be necessary. Look for foods that are for aging adults. Look for small breed if you have a small breed dog as the kibble or wet chunks may be smaller. Contact your vet clinic East Dallas, TX for more information.
