Why Do Cats Meow?

broken image

Cats can meow for a variety of reasons. The number one reason is for communication purposes. The feline primarily communicates through a meow which can often turn into a screech or a hiss depending on his mood. Meowing is the number one way for cats to communicate. Other ways include leaving a spray or scent mark, body language such as the tail position and ear positions, and even swatting or patting with paws. The Siamese breed is a particularly talkative cat so constant meowing is almost expected. Once you get to know your cat you will become more familiar with the meow patterns. You’ll find that if your cat is meowing differently for his personality (i.e. excessively, or not at all) then there could be something wrong physically. Irregular meows could signal pain, anxiety, discomfort, etc. Call your animal hospital Riverbend, ON to schedule a checkup.
