Perching Is A Natural Cat Instinct

broken image

Cats naturally seek vertical spaces where they can be at a vantage spot while keeping a close eye on what’s going on around them. This is an instinct that they have inherited from their ancestors who had to stay in elevated spots to keep an eye out for potential threats as well as prey. Domestication, however, has not erased this primal instinct for survival.

Cats also love jumping from one furniture to the next, a behavior that some cat parents hate because of some damage to valuable items like picture frames on the shelves or delicate china. However, this is a natural feline behavior and pet owners must create an environment that allows plenty of opportunities for cats, especially indoor-only cats, to engage in natural behaviors while deriving physical and mental motivation.

If you have any concerns about your pet’s behavior, make sure to ask your vet Aldershot, ON about them on your next visit.
