Dogs instinctive display aggressive behavior when they find themselves threatened. It is actually a primary defense mechanism to protect themselves from perceived threats. However, there are also certain trigger factors and motivations that can lead to displays of aggressive behavior towards humans. Over time, dogs may learn that aggressive behavior can be used to scare people or other pets. Aggressive behavior may also be displayed when they think that there is a threat to their resources and/or territory. It can also be displayed during rough play. Even with domestication, dogs still possess aggressive tendencies, a trait that they have inherited from their wild ancestors. While many behavior experts believe that dominance is not an important contributory factor to displays of aggression towards humans. Dogs of either sex, age, or breed are capable of engaging in aggressive behavior. But intact males that are about 2 years of age tend to be involved in problems associated with active aggression.
