Unsafe Spices For Dogs

Some spices that are commonly used in human food is unsafe for dogs. Here are some of the most common ones:

 

Garlic powder- While it is relatively safe and beneficial to give dogs small quantities of fresh garlic, experts don’t recommend giving powdered garlic because it is a more concentrated and potent form of the spice.

 

Onion powder - Onion contains the compound thiosulphate which can cause hemolytic anemia in dogs. It is a condition characterized by the bursting of the red blood cells.

 

Pepper - Piperine in black pepper enhances the absorption of certain prescription medications which can eventually increase the chance of overdose.

 

Nutmeg- Myristicin in nutmeg is toxic to dogs and can cause nervous symptoms such as seizures and disorientation.
