Snakes and Llamas

broken image

Snakes can be very dangerous if they are venomous and harmful. They can attack cows, horses, and even llamas. They don’t usually look for llamas, but if your llama is in the wrong place at the wrong time and accidently startles a snake then he could get bitten. Common symptoms of a snake bite in llamas include the llama lying flat, convulsing or seizing, arching his neck and back, legs shaking, labored breathing, and dilated pupils. Your llama may be standing fine with his buddies one minute and then on the ground the next. It’s important to always keep an eye on your llamas and livestock. Even if it’s just a quick peek out the window or check in on the video camera. If you suspect a snake bite or see these signs, call your veterinarian Westminster, MD immediately and also ask about applying a vitamin C paste. Some studies show this to help fight the poison.
