If you have a home with a fireplace, chances are you’re using it to keep warm during the winter. Fireplaces offer warmth and entertainment as they’re mesmerizing to watch. If you have a cat, she may also find the flames mesmerizing. Just make sure you have a fire screen up to prevent your cat from getting too close to the flames. If your cat attempts to get too close to the fire screen then you may need to place another piece of furniture in front of the screen to deter her. When the fireplace is not in use, keep it closed off so your cat doesn’t decide to play in the ashes. Always keep your fireplace closed and off when you’re not home. If possible, only have the fire going when you’re in the room. For more tips, talk with your Washington, DC veterinarian.
